Students from BHA were honoured to be invited to participate in events marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2020 at Hasmonean High School for Girls. This year marks 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz- Birkenau, and the theme of this year’s anniversary is Stand Together. Students from BHA came together with students from Hasmonean High School and other local schools in solidarity and mutual respect. The Opening Ceremony was poignant and students were encouraged to reflect on Sir Nicholas Winton’s words: ‘Don’t be content in your life just to do no wrong, be prepared every day to try and do some good.’
Our students took part in a number of workshops exploring; Propaganda in Art and in the Media, The Refugee Crisis –Then and Now and Man’s Search for Meaning based on Victor Frankel. The Guest Speaker was author Mr Derek Niemann and the students listened attentively as he gave an emotional account of his grandfather’s role as an SS Commander of Dachau Concentration Camp.
