Art Day

We celebrated all things creativity and art-related as part of our Art Day; our students were encouraged to tinker with different artistic mediums, research the processes and biographies of artists and create their own grand pieces that we aim to display in Barnet Hill Academy's Beyond the Brush Art Gallery - watch this space for more updates!

Interacting with the arts is an important endeavour for our youth as it allows them to find new ways to perceive the world and present their ideas and opinions in colourful and unique ways! Here's what our students got up to during Art Day:

Our Year 2 students were looking at the dreamy, floral designs of Claude Monet, known for founding the impressionism art style, and painted their own exquisite pieces inspired by Monet's work!

Vasily Kandinsky

Taking a step away from Monet's impressionist style, our Year 3 students replicated Wassily Kandinsky, a famous Russian painter who had mastered the art of abstract design! Our students took a leaf out of his book to create patterns relying on shapes, colours and textures!

Henri Rousseau, the French impressionist, certainly made an impression our Year 5 students as they brought to life his famous nature landscapes!

British artist Stephen Wiltshire is most famous for his ability to draw landscapes from memory, and though our Year 6 students weren't expected to memorise the London city-scape surrounding the River Thames, they did enjoy mimicking Wiltshire's extremely detailed art style as well as learning about his background and history!

Acting Workshop with Khayaal Theatre!

With special thanks to Khayaal Theatre for hosting an entire day's worth of acting and theatrical workshops, our students had a great time impersonating different characters and portraying a variety of engaging storylines tied to Islamic concepts, ideas and history. Using unique props to help get into character, our students enjoyed bringing these stories to life!

Year 6 - Hot Chocolate Book Club!

Year 6's Friday Hot Chocolate Book Club seems to be the perfect way to start the morning - our students enjoyed sipping on delicious, warm hot chocolate on this cold morning while immersing themselves into the pages of a novel. By creating a relaxed environment, our students are able to thrive in their reading, and are encouraged to think deeply about what they have chosen to read, whether that's a page-turning mystery, an exhilarating adventure epic, or a laugh-out-loud comic.
